In 2023, Vietnam's steel industry recorded impressive growth, exporting over 11.1 million tons of steel worth $8.35 billion, an increase of 32.6% and 4.5% respectively, compared to the previous year. Notably, exports to the EU surged by 86.2% compared to 2022, reaching nearly 2.55 million tons and generating over $1.89 billion. However, with the EU's new quality and environmental regulations, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism [CBAM], Vietnam's steel industry faces significant challenges in maintaining growth.
In response, VAS has proactively developed a sustainable growth strategy aligned with global trends. The group is proud to have achieved international Environmental Product Declaration [EPD] certification, with CO2 emissions reduced to below 750 kg/ton – on par with modern European plants. VAS green Steel conquers the Belgian market, elevating Vietnam’s steel reputation in Europe
In October, VAS exported tens of thousands of tons of steel to Belgium. This milestone affirms the quality and credibility of VAS green Steel in the international market, enhancing its competitiveness and solidifying Vietnam’s leadership in the green steel industry.
By adopting a circular economy model – the largest of its kind in Vietnam – VAS transforms scrap metal into VAS green Steel that meets international standards: Japan [JIS], the UK [BS4449], the US [ASTM, SAE, J403], and Australia [ACRS]. This contributes significantly to creating a national “Green and Clean” heavy industry. Using cutting – edge Italian technology and electric induction furnaces [eliminating the need for diesel or coal], VAS reduces CO2 emissions by over 40% compared to traditional methods.
With a comprehensive ecosystem of five steel production companies and the Nghi Son International Port, VAS seamlessly integrates production and supply chains, establishing a robust platform to meet the diverse needs of domestic and international customers, particularly in environmentally conscious European markets. Expanding its presence in Belgium, VAS green Steel is becoming a key player in Vietnam's steel value chain, earning its status as a National Brand and continuously expanding globally.
Before entering the EU, VAS has successfully established its name in over 15 major markets, including the US, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China, Australia, and Guatemala [Central America].
